Parish Life Commission

Mission: The Parish Life Commission helps build the spirit of Christian community among existing and new parish members. We seek to be advocates of hospitality, encouragement, and support by providing opportunities for greater involvement, connectedness, and service to each other.

This commission meets on the first Wednesday of every month.

The Parish Life Commission oversees the following ministries:

 

Blood Pressure Screening In order to promote holistic health, the parish nurse and other health professional volunteers screen blood pressures once each month during week-end services.

Cancer Support Group Spiritual support group for those experiencing cancer and cancer survivors.  Meets approximately every three weeks on Thursday evenings at 6:30PM.

Care to Share Ministry Organizes ministry fair for the parish.

Catholic Daughters of America A charitable, religious and educational organization for Catholic women of all ages. New members are always welcome.  Quilts are made to donate.  We meet at 1:00PM on the third Thursday of the month.  We have been at St. Michael Parish for 75 years.

Engaged Encounter   A diocesan-wide marriage prep program that provides a weekend away and an environment where engaged couples have quality time together to prepare, reflect and discuss important areas of their upcoming marriage.

Envelope Stuffers Help with mailings after daily 8:00AM Mass.  Announcements are made at Mass on days when help is needed.  Food is served.

Facilities Coordinator Schedules the use of all parish facilities.

Health & Wellness Assists finding health care resources and services; provides guidance, information, and spiritual support while dealing with illness.

Holy Name Society A social, spiritual and fund-raising organization for all men of the parish.  Meets the 2nd Friday of the month.  Sponsors events such as the Parish Picnic, Donut Sundays, Spaghetti Dinner, Golf Outing, Men’s Day of Recollection, Bowling League.

Knights of Columbus – Wheaton Council A Catholic, family-oriented, fraternal and charitable organization for men.  Provides service to church, community, and our members. Sponsors “Tootsie Roll Drive” and other fund-raisers.

Leisure Club A social organization for parishioners age 50+.  Holds dinner meetings on the 2nd Saturdays of September – May.

Marriage Encounter A weekend experience dedicated to assisting couples to live a joy-filled and happy marriage, awakening in them the awareness that Marriage, as a Sacrament, will assist in strengthening and renewing the Church.

Men’s Bowling League

Moms Plus ‘At home’ moms with small children (through 1st grade) meet bi-weekly at St. Michael’s during the school year, weekly at local parks during the summer.  Meet new friends for support and encouragement!

Scouting

Ø      Boy Scouts Troop 34 meets weekly. Boys must have completed fifth grade, Cub Scouts, or be 11+ years of age.
