Extracurricular Activities at St. Michael Parish School

St. Michael School seeks to provide after school programs that reinforce positive character traits.  After school enrichment activities such as band, yearbook, and the school newspaper, allow students to learn in a less formal environment while encouraging students to explore a wide variety of interests.

Battle of the Books

Battle of the books is a competitive team of fourth and fifth grades who compete in several tournaments with other District 200 and private schools in the area.  Students read 25 books from a library list and practice for nine months (June through February) with tournaments taking place in January and February.

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

The National Junior Honor Society was established in 1929 to recognize outstanding middle school students.  This organization honors students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship.

Student Council

The Student Council is made up of elected representatives, two from sixth grade, four from seventh grade and four from eighth grade.  In addition eighth graders hold the offices of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  To maximize opportunities for interested students terms are for one semester.  Two coordinators from the school staff assist the council in accomplishing their planned activities, which include: food drives, recycling drives, seventh and eighth grade dances and other projects.
