Four-Year Old
Curriculum

The main focus of the Four-Year Old program at St. Michael School is the development of your child's socialization, as well as preparing your child for the many demands of kindergarten. These skills include listening to teachers and classmates, sharing, playing independently and with others, waiting for a turn, asking for help when needed, problem solving, and learning how to handle conflicts appropriately.

The Four Year-Old curriculum is more intense than that of the Three-Year Old program. The Four-Year Olds are more mature and more capable than the Three-Year Olds.  For this reason, the listening time is more lengthy and project tasks are more complex. All learning activities are presented to the children in topics of interest and are carefully designed to be age-appropriate. We allow for each child to experience success and develop at his/her own rate! Learning activities are centered around themes throughout the school year. For example, in the fall, our themes are My Name is Special and Apples!

Language Arts

Language Arts is everything that has to do with reading and writing. It involves the development of letter recognition and letter-sound relationships (phonics). It involves listening for patterns and rhythms in words (phonemic awareness) Language Arts involves listening skills, dramatic skills, and the appreciation of a good book! At St. Michael Preschool, we work very hard to help develop these skills in all our preschoolers. Developing Language Arts in preschoolers is key to fluent reading skills later in school!

Part of our Language Arts curriculum is the Letter People! Each letter is a character that helps us learn about that letter and it's special sound/s.

Math

Learning numbers, counting, patterns, classifying, sorting, important number concepts, and exposure to addition facts are all an important part of developing your child's math skills.

Science

At St. Michael Preschool, we learn a great deal about nature! Animals, plants, seeds, water, weather, and space provide natural springboards for learning in the classroom!

Religion

We learn all about God's Creation and how He made everything for us! Other Religion themes include: God Made Me Special, the Holy Family is Special, Jesus is our Friend, Holy Mary, Being Kind, and Helping Others.

Social Studies

We learn about the world around us from our own community to other places around the world! We love to look at the map to see where others have traveled, will be traveling to, and places daddy goes on business! We learn that people are different and the same all over the world!
