Faith in
Action
Faith
in Action is an important part of the spiritual development
of our students. By giving students the opportunity to
put their Faith Into Action, St. Michael School provides
the foundation for lifelong commitment and enjoyment of serving
others.
Faith
In Action focuses on three major areas: family, parish/school
and community service. All students, Kindergarten through
8th grade, participate in the FIA Program with service opportunities
that are pre-selected and age appropriate. Journaling and
daily classroom discusses round out the experiences students
encounter. In many of these experiences, lifetime relationships
and stewardships are formed.
Family
Service encourages students to:
- identify
activities or chores that assist the family
- select
something that is above and beyond the normal, giving students
the opportunity to serve their family first.
Parish/School
Service encourages students to:
- take responsibility
for their immediate surroundings
- encourages
students to take ownership and show pride in service to their
closet community
Local
community service calls students to:
- venture
out of our immediate parish family
- provide
such things as labor, food or friendship to community members
- become
exposed to the infinite shades of the human condition through
age-appropriate projects
- learn
about the inter-connectedness we share with our community
around us
Math Enrichment:
Mission:
the objective the of the math enrichment program for the
Junior High
students is to provide a basis for a successful transition
to high school, with a goal of qualifying for advance placement
math classes.
The objective
for the math enrichment program for the 5-6 grade levels is to
promote a fascination with Math utilizing the curriculum as provided
by the Diocese. Math enrichment then enhances this curriculum
with math experiences outside of the curriculum.
Placement for
both math enrichment programs is determined through a combination
of standardized testing, specific math skills, testing, classroom
performance and teacher input.
